October 2015 Sunnyside Mom and kittens:

<< Back to All Success Stories

An FCF volunteer received a call about a neighborhood cat that was observed to have an abscess on it's face. The caller said the abscess appeared to be getting worse and had spread to the cat's eye. After a few questions it was determined the cat was a friendly stray that had given birth 2 weeks earlier in her neighbor's yard. The cat regularly visited the neighbor for food. Next time she came for food they put her in a carrier and retrieved the kittens. Mom and kittens were brought to the FCF volunteer. The three kittens were plump and other than one of the kittens having mildly infected eyes they appeared to be in good health. The volunteer was however alarmed to see the extent of the swelling on the cats face and to the eye. Next day the cat was taken to the vet and underwent surgery to clean and treat the abscesses.

When she came home from the surgery she looked like a completely different cat, the swelling on her face and eye were completely gone. -the relief to the cat must have been immediate.

Sun's babies waiting for mom

Sun recovered and ready for adoptiom

She proved to be an excellent patient tolerating a warm compress on her face and neck 10 minutes at a time, 3 times a day for 5 days. After a round of antibiotics, the warm compresses and two re-checks with the vet she was given a clean bill of health. She was an attentive Mom throughout and her kittens thrived. Mom has been named Sun (after Sunnyside St in Oakland) her three kittens all female are named Saturn, Jupiter and Neptune. The kittens are now weaned. Beautiful Sun has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and is available for adoption.
